“Davies runs the most popular podcast in the classical Christian education movement, BaseCamp Live and is a needed voice inspiring and guiding our schools.”

Davies Owens | Founder and Host
As a speaker, teacher, leader, and serial entrepreneur, Davies has enjoyed the privilege of connecting with school leaders, parents, and students for more than three decades. His presentations are designed to ignite conversations and inspire intentional engagement and action.
His primary goal is to assist parents and schools in building confidence, clarity, and renewed enthusiasm as educators. Throughout his career, Davies has always been fascinated by the intersection of media, ministry, and education. With over two decades of experience in classical Christian school leadership, along with teaching and training leaders on a national scale, Davies has honed proven strategies and solutions to help them thrive.
Davies has also thoroughly enjoyed leading from behind the microphone. From his early undergraduate years at Furman University, hosting a Christian radio show called “Against The Grain” to the current BaseCamp Live podcast, now in its 7th year.
Davies earned his M.Div. at Duke Divinity School and a doctorate at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, focusing on online interaction and community.
For over a decade, he served in local church ministry, including his most recent role as an Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian in Orlando, Florida. During this time, Davies innovated new ways to build online communities, which led to an invitation to work in Silicon Valley with Christianity.com during the “dot.com” heyday. Later, he co-founded a non-profit organization, JoePix, which served as an innovation lab for churches and nonprofits.
Davies’ doctoral work centered on leadership and online community, instilling in him a deep appreciation for technology while keeping a keen eye on its limitations. He has had the privilege of speaking at the Lausanne Forum on media and technology in Thailand, which led to collaborations with para-church organizations worldwide.
Davies’ journey took an even more significant turn thanks to his three school-aged children, helping him realize that schools are among the most influential forces in shaping the next generation. After serving as the Head of School at Heritage Preparatory in Atlanta for seven years, Davies assumed the roles of Dean of the Upper School and later Head of Vision and Advancement at The Ambrose School in Meridian, Idaho until 2019. Since then, he has been working in the national movement, focusing on strengthening the family’s partnership with our schools.
As the host of BaseCamp Live, Davies strives to make classical Christian education accessible to everyone. He frequently speaks at schools, inspiring parents and teachers alike. Davies’ journey has also included speaking engagements at various classical Christian conferences, including the Society for Classical Learning (SCL), where he had the privilege of serving as their Executive Director. He has led Leader’s Day, taught various workshops, and served as the MC at national events for the Association of Classical Christian Schools. He is also an adjunct professor and lecturer for Gordon College’s master’s program, teaching institutional advancement for classical school leaders. And, Davies is on the Board of Academic Advisors for the CLT (Classic Learning Test).
Davies and his wife, Holly, are blessed with three incredible children, all of whom have benefited from a K-12 classical Christian education. They are now in college or graduated and are thriving and flourishing. Outside of his podcasting and consulting work, he finds joy in traveling to Rwanda to support Africa Bright Future School and collaborating with the nonprofit organization Rebuilding Generations. This organization focuses on mentoring teenagers while restoring cars and promoting the common arts, which he finds both fulfilling and inspiring.
